Stepping forward into the now, I’d like to present a live performance at the Underground Producers Alliance by VAL INC. Close to an hour of pure rhythm, sampling, DJ performance, and synthesis.
Val Jeanty (Val-Inc)
Haitian Percussionist, Sound Chemist, and Professor
Val Jeanty is a pioneering Haitian electronic music composer, percussionist, and turntablist who has redefined the boundaries of rhythm through her self-described genre, “Afro-Electronica” (or “Vodou-Electro”). Her work is a synergistic blend of Haitian Vodou spirit and postmodern technology, treating the turntable and drum machine as sacred tools for ancestral communication.
Jeanty’s music is rooted in the “Lakou” (the traditional Haitian communal yard). She views herself as a “vessel” or “sound chemist,” using frequencies to bridge the gap between the archaic and the futuristic.
“Vodou culture has always been my source of inspiration... Each rhythm produces its own unique set of resonances, merging into a vibrational ocean of Haitian ancestral legacy.” — Val Jeanty
